Java is a *tiny* part of the whole that is not necessary to run the whole. Whereas the opposite is not true. e.g. A window in a car is useless without the door and/or body ... yep ... the window will have less problems. Wow ... what a shocker! Try driving that window to another city though. Then to compare the two (Java vs. MS/Linux) ... give us a break will you?

BTW ... we also run Linux, Unix, MS, Java and I'll program in Java for webs.

I run with most everything turned on at home ... I get no virii, trojans, worms (in at least the past 5 years or since I can remember) ... oh, wait, I practice safe computing.

Guys ... everything has holes ... put the blame where it REALLY should be ... the user. This is not to say that they shouldn't be patching ... but, give us a break ... MOST of what infects any system is because of absolute stupidity of the user.

IF you don't trust yourself enough ... then by all means ... DISABLE (or don't install) Java - as someone else commented. But, don't call that act one of virtue. It's not. It's an act of being scared of what YOU might do out of stupidity.
