Of course it is Only because it is more Popular... Yeah Sure.
Not Popular, Dominate if people had a choice (even a refund) they could be more aware. But as it is, Only those that have an interest or know better have to seek out the alternatives.

Still they have to deal with "The Path of Least Resistance"
Why can't I get that Avertec 3500 without Windows?
(Who is responsible for the refund, Retailer, OEM or MS)

For many years some then many knew of the problems of ActiveX, MShtml, Wscript. Yet rather than correct the core problem, proprietary, poorly designed code designed to segment and usurp developing public standards. Still they spin it to sell their next thing.

While nothing is 100%. 95% of the malware is related only and specifically to Windows & IE, because of ActiveX, MShtml, Wscript. Not because of more systems, but because it is more vulnerable.

Mozilla/Firefox/Opera is a good start. Of course you need a hardware or software firewall on any system. And the additional AV & ad/spyware tools

But you can skip 95% of the problems by looking at the alternatives. Apple, BSD, Linux..

May I suggest
