Taking action is as much your responsibility as anyone else
I agree that companies need to do more to protect their customers. That involves not making personal information in the work environment easy to obtain. Safeguarding information as simple as your phone number should be one of their top priorities. It's too easy for someone to steal your information from your mail box, and then use it to obtain loans and goods from your hard-earned credit. These companies need to reexamine convenience versus security for the consumers of the world. I'd gladly trade the luxury of quick credit for long-lasting security with my important personal information.

While 94% of those questioned think companies should do more to prevent phishing scams, I hope they don't believe they have nothing more to do than wait for these companies to act. There is nothing preventing people from being pro active in protecting their information in various ways. It's far better to be as safe as possible now, rather than having ruined credit and being sorry later.
