phishing trap
P.T. Barnum said that there is one born every minute. Phisher use that truthism to inflict their damage on individuals and coroporations on a continual basis. We have a tendancy to be lasy when it come to portecting ourselves, thinking that because they have made it simple it is the ultimate responsiblity of the company we are dealing with to protect us, but this in not the case. Phishing will nevery go away as long as there are people who will blindly follow the links and start inputting information. Steve Krabill has the right idea, trust no one! If we were to question every attempt, legitimate or not, to aquire, "confirm" or verify personal data then we would be able to smoke out the phishing quickly. I don't send data over the internet unless I am fully confident who is asking for and where it is going. I do not have a phishing problem or a spam problem because I question everything and I turn down every offer to send me additional data about anything. Know who sent the request or who is asking for information (verify it over the phone if you have to) and uncheck all the defaulted 'send me more info' checkboxes when you do fill out an online form. You will start to notice that they are all checked! You don't flash a lot of money in publick, the same kind of (common sense) caution needs to be used on line.
