I think you missed the point

sucked up by trojans and viruses, sounds like you need a real firewall, not a PC based software package.

The point is that all these zombies on the internet are using up everybody's bandwidth. I have a firewall, but you should see the activity light on my cable modem even when all my computers are turned off! That's the impact that all those unsecured Windows machines have on even those who know how to secure their own systems (or use another operating system). So it is a Windows created problem, because nobody has been successful, so far, at recruiting an army of Linux, Unix or Mac zombies.
