Microsoft don't care, you "I Agreed" to the EULA
As long as all users of Microsoft Windows (and IE is simply an embedded component of the Windows OS) are forced to "I Agree" to Microsoft's EULA before they are allowed to install or use it, Microsoft have ZERO incentive to give a flying rat's ass. All they have to do is make concerned sounding statements, make a few promises - and do nothing. Apart from take your money. And work on ways to lock other end users into the same situation.

How many people would agree to a "Food Poisoning" disclaimer before they were allowed to eat pies? Especially when those pies were in the news EVERY SINGLE MONTH for being infected? And the anti-infection procedures YOU were responsible for treating your pie with, AFTER you bought it a) came from a 3rd party supplkier, and so added to your total cash outlay b) Only protected against the KNOWN infections, leaving you completely and totally un-protected against the NEW infections, which appear daily.

Would you buy a car with a couple of dozen known but un-patched defects? Would you buy that faulty car after you had agreed to absolve the manufacturer of any and all responsibilities? No? But taht's how the Windows revenue generator works. Microsoft sell a product which they know is flawed, but they don't have to care, because before you can use it, you have to agree to emasculate yourself, you have to sign away all rights to a product that works, you have to agree that the vendor are blameless and beyond responsibility for anything that happens while using their flawed, un-patched product.

If you're a Microsoftie you then get onto ZDnet and brag about your virus stuffed system, and anyone who doesn't agree with you can be labelled "viscerally jealous of Bill Gate's billions".

Strange world.
