``"Customers worldwide, both at home and at work, have told us that they need help minimizing the risk of malicious threats, and we believe this calls for the global IT community to band together to address these needs," Kaplan said at the conference, according to a statement issued by the company.''
This call on MS to improve its misserable security record, has been going on in the last 5-7 years. The MS's answer: ``let's all get together to fix MY problem''
It is rediculous to call upon others to fix the unintelligent design/construction of the windows 'os'. ms windows NEVER got over the fact that it was and STILL is a single-user pc os.
1) Authority structures were never built into the kernel.
2) The migration of application code to artificially appear that it is part of the kernel and the fact has OPENED all doors to application code run as TRUSTED system code.
3) MS never bothered to make sure that foreign code cannot invoke os level functions UNLESS it carries along the CORRECT auhorization. This has allowed scripts hidden within objects like HTML or DOC files to usurp system control.
4) The 1000s of vulenerabilities with buffer overflows and EASY access to calls of unpublished RPC system functions has made the ms platform an open field for malicious abuse.
5) Even the default settings for the home PCs allow foreign untrusted scripts execute as the user who is unsuspectingly running them.
But, now ms wants others to get together to fix the innate problems of its systems. How could that be effective? It simply defies reason.
Ofcourse 'others' includes all of its pals who stand the chance to keep making billions of $$$ from selling 'security solutions' layered ONTOP of shabby infrastructure.
Bottom line: the security problems in this platform have burdened the already weakened IT budgets with an excess of 200Billions of $$$.
The fact that those FOOTING the bill express NO concern, should be studied by sociologists and psychotherapists. These seem to be the days of global confusion, chicanery and masochim.
Off-shoring, ms security, lack of proper education, .... the modern afflictions.
MS: ``we sell you trash for cash and we say right on your face that you are not so smart AND we do not care''(tm) - Posted by: michael-t Posted on: 11/04/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
