I only know too well the real life...
I spend plenty of time stomping out the fires produced by ignorant programmers who never saw the down side to their failure to anticipate the evil of the world. I spend plenty of time helping educate ignorant computer users on the need to firewall, patch, immunize, think so they can run Internet Explorer. In the more egregious cases where they cannot avoid temptation, I turn them over to Mozilla and Firefox since unfortunately Internet Explorer provides way too many attack vectors and these people can amazingly break a ball bearing with a broomstick.

My original statement still stands. Ignorance can be deadly, willful ignorance, even more so. The end results of one little incident here proves that all too well. Just had sentence on a highschool drunk driver who will be wasting his life in prison because that little stint cost him two of his friend's lives and left the third crippled for life. Plenty of other samples where ignorance reams you if you want them.

There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity you may have missed. You can escape ignorance by educating yourself and others; however, failure to do this can let ignorance to congeal into stupidity which you cannot escape.

So do yourself a big favor. Quit apologizing for Microsoft and ignorance.
