- Faith such a tricky concept is it not?
-
How can faith be wrong? Or a better question how can
one prove to one that has a faith that his or hers is
incorrect while mine is true?
You have various holy books and text..but that requires
faith to believe that they are true in the first place.
You have various messangers and all of them are
HUMAN BEINGS and since we all agree that Human
beings are terribly flawed it is well folly to trust them is it
not? So does one use the majority if witnesses
concept..ie if a 100 Chriistians claim the truth and only
a dozen Pagans do the Christians win? Well one
should hope NOT to live in the Middle East or perhaps
India, and or many Asian nations. Maye even
Mongolia where the Pagan rites are still practiced. So
numbers is a very imprecise reason to choose a faith.
So many claim to know the one and only truth...yet so
many differ. Yes even those who claim to be of the
same faith ie False and true Christians in the end
disagree on one point or another.
Then there is the whole "IS" this book or that the world
of GOD question? And can God's word be
misrepresented? Now I have the whole 10
Commandments to consider in the arguement or the
Thou shall not kill, or is it Thou shall not commit
murder? A couple words different and the whole
meaning changes dramatically. Then there is the
concept that Satan (if you beleive in said) is the price of
lies and if the Bible can be changes by a mere couple
of words in one area..could in not be changed in
others.? Then there are the books who the Roman
Catholics judged to be NOT inspired by GOD. Now
why oh why would Christians trust the Roman Catholics
to use sound and true spiritual judgement since
Christians are for the most part very NONE COOL with
the whole Roman Catholic sect?
There is a world of difference between NO DESERT for
you when punishing a child to and ETERNITY of
SUFFERING. Especially when that child did not much
more than NOT doing his or her homework while at the
same time cleaned her or her room regularly and in
general got very good marks in school and many very
positive comments from teachers, and even helped
around the house. ie my Wicca example for instance.
So what do I have to use as a tool to deciede on the
whole God issue....only my standards as a human
being who has an instinctual gut feeling on what is
good and what is evil. And my reason. If you present
a God image too me for me even to cross the line into
consideration this God must meat my standards of
what is good and what is evil, and he/she must on at
least some level make sense. How else can I decide
on such an important issue?
As for any gift given to me from God. Well we should
come up with a different term than Gift. For too my
mind a Gift is omething given with NO strings attached
that is a gift. Perhaps we can call life from God an
obligation. Something given with huge strings
attached? As for I...I take the messure of my life and
can find no grattitude. Besides as I have read the Bible
I don't find a single passage that said I was in any sort
of pain before given this life....so I don't see a favor
being done for me. It seems to my reading of the Bible
God did what he did for his own wants, need and or
desires.....This whole life and everything has very little
to do with satisfying our needs (for as far as I can tell
before life we had NO needs) but everything to do with
God and his/her needs. I just don't find that very
compelling. I know you willingly except this..but I can
not get past it. No gift has been given too me, my liffe
was not for me,but for God. So will everyone PLEASE
agree that gift is the wrong pharse to use here?
Perhaps you don't want to use the word obligation
(though again to my humble opinion it does work better
than gift and seems to fit the situation) However I will
give up on the word obligation if you give up on the
work gift. And perhaps we can find a middle ground
here.
Spoon as long as you are NOT bringing your word to
me and more importantly others by the point of a
gun..then I am OK with you. As long as when I say
thanks but no thanks and you walk away..then you are
OK with me. As long as their is not eagernes in your
heat to be proven right, and to look upon the suffering
with a certain glee..then you are OK by me.
As long as you say this is your opinion and not the
undeniable TRUTH you are OK with me. For once you
claim the turth..I must insist on PROOF.
If I can be so easily swayed from what I know in my
heart to be basic priciples of good. Like one does not
stick a sword in a helpless woman, child, or old person
for ANY reason. Then I can be in fhe future convinced
that other EVIL acts are justified and I would be no
better than those women in TX. For if you can cross
that line once....when do you draw it again, or worse
can you?
