Is that like when MS dropped plug in support...

with no advanced warning. (unless it was buried somewhere in molecular-sized print)

A service pack for Explorer (SP2 for 5???) suddenly and without warning dropped support for plug ins, thus crippling features like Quicktime and other technologies, frustrating and angering users whose machines suddenly didn't work as before.

Apple came out with a "fix" (read... countered MS sabotage and dirty tricks) within a week or so but it still cast a bad light on Apple, other companies and their technologies.

MS isn't concerned about computer users. In fact, the more it sabotages competitor products and functionality, the worse the competitors and other OSes look (and the better Windows looks). Why miss the opportunity to make any other competitor look bad?
