"disconnect"??? "disconnect" is a verb. The noun forms are: "disconnectedness", and "disconnection". Does Mr. Stiennon mean discrepancy? He's not Al Gore who started to use "divide" as a noun to replace "division". And Gore should have been hauled onto the carpet for this abuse of the language.

When the meaning of words is not what they have meant in the past, communication becomes impossible. The very meaning of anything written in the past is lost. It is past time for all writers and editors to correct these errors with parenthetical insertions. If the originator of the misstatement complains, send a dictionary to him or her. If your grammar checker passes such errors, replace it.

The growing tendency to redefine the meaning of words to suit yourself may very well be more dangerous in the long run than any spyware. After all, when you can no longer communicate, spyware is without purpose.
