Focus shill
Based on your definition, you really are a shill, blindly defending *nix with no thought to what is actually being said!

I don't seem to remember having any problems opening Konqueror and connecting to a web site after installing Mandrake. No outgoing ports were blocked, by default, as you suggest. If no outgoing ports are blocked, I can access the outside world through SMTP, FTP, or HTTP. If you are going to block HTTP on a default installation of Linux, all I have to say is good luck ever reaching more than 1% of the desktops out there!! Also, this is a FIREFOX extension. If *nix, by default, blocks outgoing HTTP connections from Firefox on a machine that has Firefox installed, and you don't unblock it... well... you REALLY are dumber than I thought!!!! You enjoy staring at a blank Firefox page? happy

Oh, wait, I misunderstood. What you meant is that your firewall would block outgoing connections for you? Now, would this be the firewall that is bolted into *nix, or the one you install separately? Did you know that there are tons of firewall solutions for Windows that block outgoing connections and every single one of them would be 100% effective at blocking spyware communication routes?

Try again shill. You still haven't convinced me that it would be ANY more difficult to write spyware targetting a dumb user's *nix desktop than it would be a dumb user's Windows desktop. All you've really managed to do is convince me that firewalls are good, no matter what OS you use and, to be honest, it wasn't your BRILLIANT insight into the wonderful world of *nix that did that.
