Expectations and knowledge
Corps will adopt anti-spyware as it becomes a component of the AV/Firewall suite.

Many expect a PC to be just like any other tool. You turn it on, it works and then you turn it off. They do not have the knowlegde that many who work in IT have regarding threats such as spyware, adware, worms, virii etc. So the end user is woefully underequipped to deal with a networked world. Plus many really don't want to learn about how to make their PCs more secure. Yes, I have heard that said. Many of us have jobs to help them with this problem. No matter how much you talk about not opening attachments, no matter how tight you manage the desktop or firewall, the Windows OS allows for auto-execution with elevated (system) privileges that in many cases is done without the end user even knowing it is happening. The MS apps are integrated to take advantage of features that in many cases are quite nice. But the price you pay is an insecure OS. That's why I always thought it a lousy idea to integrate browsers or media players into a OS. The benefits are not worth the secuirty headaches.

ActiveX however is a disaster and we have seen the fallout. Insecure and totally unnecessary. Bad design choice.
