The shill is stronger in you
>The main point of nonMS shills is why the heck are you using MS software when there are other much more secure systems available?

Because windows can be made secure enough for my daily needs by applying the exact same security techniques and practices that would have to be applied to other OSs (restrict user permissions, use a firewall, don't install neato browser bars and music stealing software, etc.).

>You have to admit their "firewall" is a joke.

I do admit that it is a very basic firewall and I was laughing at the ABM shills who were pissed off when there was no firewall, who are now pissed off because the firewall is a joke, and who would be pissed off if the firewall was fully featured because it would drive firewall companies out of business. Did you even bother to read my post? Probably not, shills of all flavours get so excited by anyone possibly holding a different viewpoint than theirs that they don't typically bother to try and understand the other viewpoint. That's okay though, we've come to expect no less from the typical ZDnet poster like you!

>It is only after you add in a hardware firewall, virus detection software, adware software, spyware software, stop using IE and other measures that you are relatively secure.
Other than the "stop using IE" (which I agree with, I'm posting this from firefox), the same can be said of ANY OS that was big enough to be a target.
-ALL machines, regardless of their OS, should be connected through a firewall. If you are suggesting otherwise, then you are more of a fool than I initially thought.
-Anti virus software isn't really necessary on Linux because viruses need a large installed base to propagate. When Linux gets that installed base, I believe (and NONE of us can predict the future, we can only guess) that Linux will have as many issues with viruses/worms/trojans as Windows does today.
-Adware/spyware are not technological issues, they are societal issues that again, relies on a large installed base. The goal of advertising is to get across to as many people as possible so would you target your adware to the OS that had 10 installed users, or 100,000,000? If Linux ever gets to that large installed base, adware/spyware will become as much a problem as it is today on Windows. I don't care how technologically superior Linux is to Windows. Either you don't allow end users to install programs (again, possible with Windows today), or you do and you risk having them install adware.
