Silly Article
Slow news day, indeed !

A while back there was a fellow who tracked down a stolen Mac
using Timbuktu, the remote control software.

The thief had gone online with the Mac and the Macuser was
able to detect the Mac and get the phone number it was dialed
up from.

While he was in control of the stolen Mac, he deleted the
personal data from the hard drive so the thief couldn't use the
credit card data.

And then he, um, wrote a script to delete the entire hard drive.
And, um, he posted his script online.

Which was naive.

This supposed 'threat' is no more dangerous than the script that
Macuser came up with.

It's not a virus. It's barely a Trojan !

It can't install itself.

A user with Admin priviliges would have to type in their
password to install this.

And suppose it could send a copy of itself to another Mac.
Again, a user with Admin privileges would have to authorize it.

At any rate, Apple is on top of these issues like a cat on a
mouse.

No doubt, they'll issue a security patch to placate the doom-
sayers.

Although there isn't much to patch. I suppose Apple could put
in a sniffer for these specific hacker tools.
