Office XP works just fine - why spend more money to get the same experience?

Remember that both Office and XP/Longhorn are getting more and more features built in that are supposed to be advantageous to business. You need the full set of Microsoft software to get those benefits, assuming they're real and desireable.

And remember, too, that the idea of a standalone browser is obsolete after Longhorn. Yes, it'll still be possible to download and install a browser, given the effect of Federal interventions, past and threatened. But why cripple the operating system?
There'll be lots of good explanations of why you no longer need a browser, and who's going to resist getting the most out of his software? Okay, maybe a few malcontents, but most people don't care. Whatever works, particularly whatever works better.

And then you forget all the appointment, etc. stuff getting built into Outlook. Forget Outlook as email; it's set up to be the business person't personal secretary.

At the top end of the market, where the real money is, Microsoft can be expected to roll along. It's the cheaper, less capable niche that they have to worry about.
