Real question?
Not sure why that becomes the real question other than as an attempt to boast the current superiority of *nix over Windows.

The article was referring to the state of affairs a few years down the road. In which case Windows may close the majority of their security holes (big assumption, but it may happen) and more of Linux's holes exposed. Granted, I don't see Linux building the security fault list Windows has accumulated, but it only takes one privilege escalation flaw to allow a virus to spread rapidly. Also, consider that most of the viruses that exploited a Windows flaw were released after a patch for the flaw was available. The same situation could happen on Linux if it ever achieves anywhere near the critical mass of uneducated users Windows currently has. But, Linux has a long way to go in the user friendliness category to achieve that critical mass. For now, I still only see large desktop growth in the corporate environment where it will stay patched and users won't even have the root password so viruses will continue to be less of a threat. But that too may change in a few years.
