Could it be...
That what he really meant was that new viruses will be released for Linux at the same rate they will be for Windows. Just guessing mind you but I can see that as a much higher probability than Linux viruses catching up to the existing count of Windows viruses.

As to how many Linux machines will get infected, a lot of that depends on what kind of user has their hands on the keyboard. A significant pecentage of Windows viruses didn't exploit any flaw other than the gullibility of the user. Don't be too surprised if Linux viruses even include instructions to enter the root password when prompted, and people will do it.
