Why give anyone data with Soc Sec #s?
Haven't you gave your Social Security number to anyone? E.G., one of the employees in your employer's personnel department? Do yopu really trust ALL of that department's employees? Have they ever replace a hard disk without physically destroying the old HD or completely erading the data on it? (not just deleting)

And why give anyone credit card numbers? Do you realize that anytime you use your credit card number to any business on phine or online you provide enough info to let any of their employees to use your credit card?

And hy use these "identification numbers" that cannot really be used to determine anyone's identity anymore? Isn't there beter technology that can be used to provide reliable identification?

These old identification systems where designed to identify most of the people most of the time. Modern technology replaces "most" by "some". Those numbers go lots of places, and you cannot expect that no copy of your SSN or CC # would end up on some clueless PC user's computer.
