everyone missing the point
while you all of valid points, you are missing mine.

in the past, while in *alpha*, if you will, the mozilla guys have been quick to release security fixes (not waiting until the next .x release and lumping it in with other *bug* fixes). this, to me, was a major reason to keep testing them.

so, yes, they are in beta, but if kde can fix it overnight, than so could the moz guys. keeping users, albeit *beta* users, insecure for even a couple of weeks, when they dont need to, to me invalidates one of their key features, that of being much quicker to respond to issues such as this than *ahem* certain others.

how often ms updates their software is utterly irrelevant to this. if i wanted to use ms software, i wouldnt be using firefox, now, would i?

mozilla stands to lose face here. that disappoints me, because firefox is my browser of choice. yes, its beta, so i expect flaws. i also want to see them fixed.

so, yes, i think they should release a patch now for those who want it, and everyone else can wait for the next release. someone mentioned that something about a 'business aspect' to all of this; what is it? its a free product. standard business rules dont apply here.

guess i may have to switch to konqueror until then.

security flaws, to me, carry a much more serious weight than other bug fixes, and deserve a much higher priority and *should*, imo, trump product rollouts when necessary, especially when this 'beta' is in use by several million users.

so i stand by my statement; i am disappointed in their response. i expect better from them; their current response reminds me too much of what we have come to expect from *ahem* certain others in this industry.
