Personally, I have close to 100GB of data that I would not want to lose. And backing it all up simply isn't practical (although possible). It's not all non-replacable "critical" data but it sure would be a complete PITA to try to replace all of it.

But let's assume we have a "Dude, you're getting a Dell" type guy with 100GB of data (may be a bit of flawed logic - non-technical users probably don't store as much data - but let's say our Joe Dell knows how to use Kazaa).

Let's say he only has a CD burner (Dell didn't have a free upgrade to a DVD-burner that week), and there's no way he's about to go out and buy some hardware specifically for the purposes of backup.

(ASIDE: I know technically-minded people who think that storing their data in a RAID-1 is all they need for backup..)

at 700MB / disk, that's 147 CDs he'd need to backup everything.

Jeff would have you believe that if he didn't go through this painstaking process of backing up data, then he DESERVES to be hit by a virus and lose all of his data. Which is complete nonsense.
