It's Not About Pgms That Phone Home....
Most spyware is pretty harmless, esp when it's only a couple of instances of this type on a given PC. It's the sware that installs itself and refuses to remove (uninstall) itself from the PC. This is malware. Moreover, these pgms tamper w/ the underlying OS in such a way that a pro is req'd to remove it and repair the damage. I can't even begin to tell you who puts this crap on the PCs I repair. If it were only Windows Media Player and RealPlayer, there wouldn't be problem, but the sware that routinely fouls computers isn't from the big mfrs. The malware mucks up folks PCs is from grubby, small-time operators who scream at the top of their lungs about legislation that would 'infringe on their 1st amendment rights', but these folks have absolutely NO regard for my or your property rights when make this junk that puts a choke hold on our computers.
