re: Re-read the article
>>By this, I meant the sender's SMTP server. Sorry if that wasn't clear.<<

Actually, no.. it wasn't quite crystal. Thanks for clearing that up.

While it IS a good idea, I can see two flaws immediately with your concept.

1.) Check the prices - hardware is relatively cheap. A 400 GB hard drive will set you back maybe $300 - $500 and the prices, no doubt, will fall as they've always done. Even if it's a bit more money at the moment - it's still a worthwhile investment as long as there are suckers out there who are willing to buy whatever the spammer's offering.

2.) Even if the spammers don't rush out to buy monster drives, I can see them coming up with clever workarounds like having all of their little notifications pointing to the same individual file... In the same way NNTP servers keep only ONE copy of a crossposted posting, it would be bloody simple to have a million or so spam notifications pointing to the same e-mail file that brings up their ad for herbal viagra, low, low prices on cialis, breast or male sexual organ enhancements, low cost mortgage refi's or [insert your favorite spam topic here...] Granted, they will lose the "personal" touch. Such e-mails probably won't get mail-merged with the sender's name (which is probably a GOOD thing considering most spam that's been merged and sent to my inbox has someone else's name in it...!)
