one more point about Orwellian crap.
Despite it not necessarily being a problem as I said in my previous post, it's still up to the developer of the email client software what is allowed. The same is true for the POP3 or IMAP server at my end.

There could be a configuration option that lets the server know if the user wants to disable this feature. I may want to set it so that anybody within my domain can recall a message, but anybody outside cannot. Or my company may do that for me, or do it for internal mail and leave the rest up to me.

This does not change the notification part of it, but as I said, the sender doesn't truly have that anyway. And if my email client itself is not the part that tells the sender anything more than it needs to, the sender has no clue if a actually opened or read anything. The best he or she could know is that it can't be recalled, and that's not necessarily related to anything if I can configure it.

And since there's nothing stopping the recipient's email server from getting the message body whenever headers are received, you don't really know anything that you don't know now. If the architecture of my system has a fixed allocation of space per user, and there are no bandwith issues, I might choose to get the bodies up front anyway.
