Orwelian crap?

It used to be that before the current TCP/IP system got deployed to the general public, the first widespread deployment of email in a corporate environment was PROFS on IBM mainframes. It had the ability to recall email, providing that it was unread. This is not a new idea, but was a feature that millions of email users had, and one that I have missed for more than a decade. If you had used it before, chances are you would have liked it.

Yes, it also let people know that their email had been received. But it did not tell anybody if the email had been open or read. It may allow the sender's server to take it off the system, but all you know is that it made it to the user's computer. You don't know if that computer has been sitting there unattended for the past week, or if the user deleted it unread (intentionally or not) or if anti-spam software deleted it for the user (correctly or not.) So there's not a heck of a lot more information than you have right now. Currently, you know that email was not rejected by a server at the other end, or if the server accepted it (no bounce notice.) But you don't know if the server actually delivered it to the recipient or deleted it because it was spam, or if the user ever checks that account.

So there's still not a heck of a lot more information that you know now compared to before.
