Why it's an overestimate
Cautious users, who are careful with their computer use and with personal data, will walk away from this survey for exactly that reason. Therefore, only victims and potential victims will show up, and the reported average loss will be much more than the real figure.

Having said that, an average $115 loss per survey subject is still shocking. Does it include daylight robbery by broadband access company billing, perhaps?
