Laws are created for the following reasons:
1 - To provide a standard that all citizens are to adhere to. Those that don't are to be dealt with as the law dictates.

2 - To provide guidance for peace officers in maintaining the peace as well as what is acceptable and non-acceptable behavior, based on the common guidline.

3 - Provide a statute / guidance for judges in assigning punishement based on infringement of said law.

In order for laws to have affect the majority must accept them and the implications / impact they will have on their lifestyle. Otherwise, without the majority buy in, anarchy will prevail.

When a law is passed that the majority does not agree upon and blatantly violates the US Constitution, and the citizens take no action to repeal it. Then your basic freedom as an American is erroded away, until one day you are living in a dictatorship where what once was legal will now get you executed.
