This is getting really blown out of proportion
Is it really THAT difficult for AV companies to send out an update that will change the default from just .exe files to include .jpg, .jpeg, .icon, etc.? Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill...

And AV software ALREADY slows a 3 GHz computer to about the speed of a 300 MHz PII, so what's the big deal if it slows it down to a 200 MHz PII? Unfortunately that's the cost of being secure. Hopefully it'll encourage people to upgrade to a processor that's not only faster, but also has the NX/XD feature, which will only help to make them more secure in the long run.
