Since 1997 I have relied on "Hackers" and "Crackers"
to find and publicise cracks and hacks into the systems and apps I use so that fixes can be made.

It is often easier to work backwards from an answer than forfards to a solution especially when the true problem is not known.

Novel and other companies have long used true hackers (who are good guys) to hunt for vulnerabilities in their codes and demonstrate the flaw and possibly a solution. These are first done in pre-releases and betas and then again in preview releases and then after the product ships.

Novel has been famous for posting on such sites in discussion threads statements such as, "Novell has now issued a patch for this bug. Go to http://... for the updates module and instructions on installing it or call your Authorized Novell Dealer to patch your system for this and other bugs."

A true hackers hacks are to illustrate a problem so that a fix can be made prior to some programmer from hell taking advantage of it especially when MS says something like, "it is not a serious flaw as it requires users to take a specific action and cannot be used to automatically compromise a system."

Go to any legitimate hack site --yes, such creatures do exists. Google 'hack', 'hacker' or 'hacker website' to find a few thousand-- and look at the discussion threads. You will see how usefull these dudes really are. They often offer far superior solutions to threats than Redmond does because they have no stakes in the apps and can say things that, although are scarry, are true and neccessary.

So someone posted code. I cannot say if this person was being a hero or a villan but it would be wrong of me to presume. I know not the circumstance nor reason for the post, just that it happened.
