Logistical Nightmare
Can you imagine those 70 year old election workers, stuggling to fix a printer? I can see the "Out of Order" signs now! Really, you only need to certify the machines as secure, and then SECURE THEM - lock them in a room until the election night. This means NO new software changes, and NO network connections! The 70 year olds can punch in a code, and the results can be sent to the screen - at which time, they get written down on paper! The machines are switched off after the election, and SECURED until the threat of recount has passed. ONLY THEN can they have their software upgraded, and the cycle begins again.
