Yes, Get Real!

Right! It's an Oxymoron.

Remember the number of times M$ has said that standards limit its freedom to innovate. It's many!

Even standards created before M$ realised there was an Internet it has had to tamper with; M$-specific Web pages for instance.

Let M$ anywhere near the deal and there'll be a stuff-up to its advantage, nobody else's.

It's high time all reasonable thinking human being call for legislation to ban anyone or any entity, e.g.: M$, from owning intellectual property rights on standards that have a utilitarian value that's necessary for the wellbeing and development of the Internet.

Such action is well over due.






Yes, get real!

Throughout the ages, most science and engineering innovation wasn't patented. Most innovation comes from inventive minds and would come with or without patents.

Patents might be a nice idea in theory but in practice, all they do is produce wide community resentment and exacerbate the divide between the haves and the haves-nots. Over the years, patents have been abused by the patent holders, nowadays it's and increasingly so: they have garrotted government thinking on patents and manipulated the law to the extent that present patent law--if one is even vaguely truthful--cannot be considered anything else other than a malfeasance committed against the citizenry.

The same applies to that other pernicious and greatly abused concept--copyright. It's done little except to make a lot of nasty, greedy middlemen, the RIAA, henchmen et al, very rich and copyright does b****r-all for artistic creativity.

Mozart, Bach and Beethoven didn't have access to copyright yet they produced some of the greatest, magnificent and longest enduring creations the human mind has ever conceived of.
