A little birdy told me...
A little birdy told me... the exploitable JPEG code was OSS, because strangely: on the day this GDI bug was announced several image related library packages for Fedora Core (and other distributions) were inexplicably patched and released. A little birdy told me... that Linus stole the source code for version 1.0 of Linux from Santa Claus and thus deprived all the little children of the world and all the Whos in Whoville from having floppy disks of code in their stockings. A little birdy told me... the first attempt at an e-mail propagating worm for Mozilla Mail on Windows has surfaced and will soon cut a swath across the new converts; making them wonder why they bothered to convert. A little birdy told me... that Richard M Stallman didn't really hurt his ankle while dancing an Irish Jig. A little birdy told me... that most people won't patch because they're not that aware and the world will become a swamp for the latest self-propagating disaster.

Rumours can have a germ of truth, and so can innuendos, and so even can articles. The question is: which are which? Why report only half the story? What ever happened to investigative journalism? And after a million media half-truths, do we care? Must ZD-Net make every Windows or Linux or FOSS issue sound like the end of the world as we know it?

No, I don't feel fine.

I know that tomorrow morning all the usual suspects will be here to rant at each other. Pardon me if I stay out of it.

You can judge for yourself which birdie-whisperings are true.
