As long as he paid the price for his crime I see no reason for not hiring
If they've paid thier debt to society and have all this skill I'd rather see them working legitimately than going back to crime. That's one of the problems with criminal justice these days. We send people to prison and when they are let out they they carry a placard(criminal record) making it impossible for them to get decent employment if any employment at all is possible. So where does that lead them? Back to crime as it's all they can do.

So why not give them a shot. Who better to know how to secure than the person who knows where all the holes are.

This isn't about rewarding a person. I've never considered employment a reward so why would that be any differnt for a hacker. A reward is giving me a million dollars for being a hacker not hiring me to work my rear off you.
