...you deserve neither liberty or safety.

'hand gunds only have one use, killing people'

lol!!!! i own several, and i have never used one to kill someone. i do use them for target practice, as a backup when hunting (trust me, if you are hunting those 'large agressive bears' you mentioned, and you wound one, it will charge you, and youd better have a good backup weapon, because rifles take a while to reload), and keep them handy for self-protection, which, thank god, i have yet to use it for.

if you are willing to give up your legal rights in this way, you certainly do not deserve a right to privacy. the end result of all 'gun control' *is*, in fact, a loss of privacy. national registries, confiscation of property, etc..

'the spirit of the law was that we could own state of the art weaponry to protect ourselves against oppression, wild indians, and large agressive bears'

actually, no, the law was there so people could protect themselves against their government and their neighbor if either should cease to respect their individual rights.

you may have a 'clear conscience' (spelling corrected), but you are certainly contradictory in your thinking. if you are willing to give up your freedoms in any area to obtain an illusion of safety, you have opened the door to give them all up (and after giving up the 2nd amendment, what will you do to get them back?).

the thing here is that, in a free society, you are free to give up *your* rights to these things and no one will argue with you. however, when you try to legislate it, what you are doing is trying to give up not *your* freedoms, but *mine* and those of your fellow citizens -- and that smacks of tyranny, the exact thing the 2nd amendment was put in place to fight against.

"It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from the government.
- Thomas Paine

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it."
- President Abraham Lincoln

"Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it."
- George Bernard Shaw

"If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom."
- Dwight D. Eisenhower

"There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for you."
- Robert A. Heinlein
