Perfect software is not impossible...
It's just that the difficulty in creating such is generally in some relation inverse to the size of the program.

For example, the "Hello World" program part of just about every programming language tutorial. Perfect. Of course, it doesn't do much that's useful.

Heck, I've written perfect software. Again, small stuff, or stuff that had a specific function, and therefore really didn't leave much room for error.


But has anyone ever had a big problem with, say, WinZip? How about WS_FTP? There've been upgrades, but were there any serious flaws in the functionality? I can't recall EVER running into an issue with WS_FTP and I've been using it for almost 10 years.

Software that's small and simple enough to be done easily, with a limited featureset, can, in fact, upon shipment, be "perfect"


Now the larger things get, the more chance there is for a mistake to creep in and the harder it is to find. Ergo the problems with Windows, because Microsoft wants to integrate EVERYTHING into the OS.
