Partial solutions
At best, this is a partial solution to the much larger and complex problem of extending corporate network services to employees "outside the moat."

1. Depending upon how it is implemented, it could easily impose a Windows-only proprietary solution. In the long run, conformance with international standards is cheaper than flashy but unique features.

2. Many government and corporate networks block secure channels to the outside world from end-user PCs on the premise that they want to monitor all communications thru the firewall.

3. There are several common scenarios in which Cisco's proposal could never work. For example: consider a contractor working in a client's networking environment.

- If an employer implemented Cisco's VPN solution, employees would probably be cut off from their employer's network. The majority of host clients' security policies would not allow them to configure their PCs for external VPN operation required by another company.

- Even both employer and client were to implement Cisco's VPN solution in their respective networks, neither's security policies would permit them to establish mutual trust.
