Re: Wrong focus
You obviously don't work in a mixed corporate network environment. If the end user's system is connected to my physical network, there are a plethora of tools available to automate the updating of patches on the end user system. If it is disconnected from my network, there are no good choices. Sometimes, the very nature of the connection prohibits updates (I'm thinking specifically of the latest SP from MS that needs to be applied, over a 56K dialup modem, because that's all that is available to the user). The user may not checkin with the IT staff before connecting up his laptop to synch it with his network files. If it was infected with Blaster, Welchia, or some similar beastie.... BLAM! your network is toast even though the perimeter is defended.

Cisco's system elevates the wall before that can happen. It forces the user to go to IT before being able to connect to the network.

Is it ideal? Hell no. But it may be better than what we have now.
