- Hey, FreeBSD fanboy!
-
Yeah, you.
Are you suggesting that because there were four flaws found in SAMBA (not Linux) in the past year, five since version 3.0 (that's five in about a year and a half) that an OS that runs the app is a sucky OS?
Does that mean that if I built an app and ran it on FBSD and my app had five flaws found in a year, six in a year and a half, that FBSD will also suck?
If that is true, do I have to be a party to the MS Bashing Party to recognise that the above definition would mean that Windows sucks more than every open source OS ever built put together and executed on an Itanium processor?
It would be natural to compare and contrast any OS with any other when one is called flawed, insecure, unstable or vulnerable. I, as an IT Guy, would definitely examine my options through comparisons and contrasts if an OS I was using or considered using was questioned.
I use Windows (2k & 2k Adv Srv), I use Linux (Gentoo 2004.2 krnl 2.6), I use FreeBSD ( I think 5.1 --haven't looked at it for a while; I guess I don't really use it then but I loved it when I did), I used OS/2 (Warp 3), AIX, SunOS, Solaris, VMS and SCO Unix and I think that I am not the only person who can compare and contrast different OSes.
But if I say, "Windows sucks," I usually follow it up with something like, "because it would not auto load the last three auto updates I received. Two I had to force the updates and reboot and then one of those updates told me to do a manual update and the third update crashed my server then refused to install. I had to reboot, uninstall .NET v 1.1, reload it, reboot, then load the update (.NET v 1.1 SP1) then reboot. My web server was down for far too long."
So, why does Linux suck? My understanding from you is, "because SAMBA has another flaw that requires a patch that takes SAMBA services down for 3 seconds." (thanks, Michael, for the reference).
Am I on the right track here, FanBoy?
P.S., How many updates have you heard about or installed for any apps, services or kernels on your FreeBSD? When did you last upgrade the OS? How long, if at all, were your down times?
No_Ax has a point in the first post. Read it. (Thanks, No__Ax, for that nice, succinct post). - Posted by: The King's Servant Posted on: 09/15/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
