It's the entry barrier that keeps the sluggos away from OS X.

First, a script kiddie couldn't DO much to OS X anyway. Not
without help.

Most of the exploits are variations, right? Some freak comes up
with it and then you get a dozen versions whipped off by Junior
High School Jerks.

So, to tackle OS X, you'd first need a really fairly smart
individual. Twisted and perverted, of course.

Willing to first buy a Mac, buy CodeWarrior, learn to program on
Darwin, then figure out how to direct all new exploits at OS X.

After all, OS X doesn't HAVE a remote command line, or a
Registry. There are all the same web ports but OS X doesn't
respond to common attacks at all.

So, it would have to be a Social Engineering exploit.

Convince MacUsers to first, turn on the File Sharing and various
other features that come switched off. Switch off the Firewall.

And when the incoming Trojan or virus downloads, convince the
MacUser this is all fine, go ahead and type in your Account ID
and Password so the script can run.


And supposing all this happened, why, you've infected ONE Mac.

Congratulations.

But you have to fool EVERY user the same way. The virus or
Trojan can't just waltz in on an email and run itself...

Of course, there are M$ Macro viruses, but let's just say I'm NOT
in that risk group !

And then, there's Social Engineering on the Mac's side as well.
Mal-adjusted creeps who enjoy causing chaos and bother seem
attacted to the x86 platform for some reason.
