there is a fundemental difference... these get fixed in a timely fashion, and for the most part, *NIX patches don't break other apps or the system (not always 100% true, but a safe statement of 98% of the time they don't). AND the patches are released before exploited... oh and one more thing, generally *NIX flaws are more difficult to exploit than any version of Windows.

We are not in denial of the fact that Linux, OS X, FreeBSD and so on have flaws, but generally the flaws are 3rd party applications that ARE NOT TIED INTO THE KERNEL! Now with Macs, I can't say too much about how they are installed / set-up but with Linux systems, I can have 10 Linux systems all set up to function the same way, do the same jobs, and never use the same configuration. How easy is that to break?
