Hang on, lets examine those assertions.
Has the UPC code really saved consumers money? Is the claim of $17 billion saved a number pulled from a hat? Is it simply saying that the grocery pipeline has become more automated in every aspect and that generates a hidden cost savings to the consumer? Or does it really just put a bit more profit into corporate America's hands? That in it self is a very big point for argument.

Be that as it may, this technology is simply ripe for abuse. Perhaps if corporate America had shown us they could be "good citizen's" and act in a responsible manner people would be more open to it's *possible* benefits. But such is not the case.

We are constantly shown that corporate America wants our personal information almost as badly as they want our money. That said information has a value and it can and WILL be sold. That "protecting" this information simply isn't a concern or at best it's a concern that gets a lick and a promice but never enough focus and commitment. I should be able to stop at the local store and grab a six pack of beer without it being an entry on hundreds of data bases across the world!

Look, make all the arguments you want about how the chips will be destroyed or deactivated when I walk out the store, I could not care less. What I do care about is the data tracking of my purchases becoming "corporate data" and what happens to this information once collected...

I must respectfully disagree; RFID needs regulation.  JonathonDoe | 09/02/04
