Not everyone is in the same boat
---If you don't like the RIAA's business practices, then boycott
them completely and/or buy only used CDs---

Already done. I've bought zero new cd's from RIAA companies
for more than three years now. A handy tool for being sure a cd
is okay is RIAA Radar:
http://www.magnetbox.com/riaa/

---But people really need to stop using the RIAA as an excuse to
steal music---

First of all, the word "steal" is incorrect here, at least according
to the US Supreme Court.

Second, I don't think the majority of filesharers (we're talking 60
million people here) are using any sort of excuse. I don't think
the majority has given it that much thought. Someone told them
they could get free music, so they do so. Some know it's illegal,
some probably don't. The vocal ones you hear declaring p2p to
be some sort of jihad against the RIAA are a tiny minority.
