how would that help this particular problem? Obviously another platform would not have had the guest account enabled becuase of the code red worm, but getting a little deeper into the problem, those companies shouldn't have gotten code red in the first place.

I do not belive if the world switched to OSS towmorrow that in the long term the internet would be a safer place, and that virii and worms would not exist. I don't think that manu people have a clear understanding of what you should and should not do, don't beieve me? look at some posting boards @ microsoft or slashdot.
Platform diversity would help the overall "secureness" of the internet but the elimination of all things MS would not be a good thing for anyone in the long term. From what i understand *BSD is pretty much the most rock solid OS around but without proper precautions in place I am sure it can be compromised and used for evil purposes.

The most secure platform is the one with the best admin/corporate policies behind the wheel.
