"The guest account is a way for administrators to let visitors use a mail server anonymously, but because of security issues, the feature is generally not enabled. Exchange servers that had been infected by the Code Red worm and subsequently cleaned will still have the guest account enabled, Greenspan said. "

There are a lot of people out there using M$ product and some of them are professional people with training and knowledge, some are guys running a business trying to keep themselves competing against companies that have more money than sense sometimes. Not everyone can afford to have and hire and pay for technogeeks to ensure that the system is running in perfect shape.

The comment above about having been infected by the Code Red virus (and as far as I am aware, only M$ products were infected by this virus, although the effects of the infection affected EVERYONE!) leaving the exchange server vulnerable is a good warning for people to check their exchange server.

So, for everyone to get on their high horse about how only "unprofessional" and "stupid dinks" would allow such a thing is utterly amazing and I would think a bit uncomplimentary on your people skills. Not everyone can afford someone to play on a computer to make sure that it is not vulnerable to all the hacking attacks going on out there.

I have not been an exchange admin, although I have admined other systems long ago when I worked as a computer tech. Technology and the times have changed since I did that, but I still see smaller companies struggling to keep up with the changes that occur daily.
