Real computers and operating systems have had this capability for years
Of course real computers and operating systems have had this capability for years. Since 1978 I believe. I'm speaking of VAXen and Alpha running VMS of course. The hardware memory protection provides for all combinations of read, write, and execute. VMS default protection for the stack and data is read, write, and no-execute. In addition this protection is provided at four levels: kernel, exec, supervisor, and user. Just one of the many reasons why VMS is so secure.
