OEMs Knew About This...
All OEMs & System Builders were aware of the facts for quite a while. If anyone dropped the ball on this, it was them.

As a small business owner who specializes in custom building PCs for clients, I attend a fair amount of seminars and workshops. For the last few years, I have attended AMD's Spring Tech Tour and Microsoft's TS2, TechNet, MSDN, & Product Launch events.

The DEP / EVP technology was covered at most of these events over the last 3 to 4 months whenever SP2 was mentioned. The heaviest coverage of this feature was done during AMD's Spring Tech Tour and Microsoft's SP2 Seminar, both of which I attended in Chicago this past June. Any information on this technology that was covered at these events was also made to major system builders within the same time frame, if not earlier.

Seeing how pretty much all system builders had this information, then they too dropped the ball on hyping it to the public. I saw coverage of this feature in any marketing done by the major system builders like HP, Compaq, Dell, IBM, etc. What I did see however, was the smaller system builders, like myself, making their clients aware of this feature when discussing new PC builds.

So, many OEMs / System Builders also missed out a golden opportunity because they too were asleep at the wheel.
