If these sleaze-bags in the movie, music, and software industry would treat their customers fairly instead like their own personal money trees, there'd be no need for the great DVDJohn to work his magic.

Don't get me wrong. I agree, they ARE sleaze-bags and if they disappeared today I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

But they are riding a multi-billion dollar cash-cow. Do you expect them to do anything that would endanger that cow, like turn a blind eye to P2P or Mr. DVD? Or do you expect them to fight tooth and nail to protect their precious cash-cow?

I believe it will be the latter, as the RIAA has so elegantly demonstrated already with thousands of lawsuits.

They have almost unlimited resources to, let's be honest here, pay off politicians to enact restrictive legislation on consumer use of their "product".

And now they can tell their political puppets "See? We tried to use protections that left fair use mostly intact, and they STILL insist on commiting piracy."

See DMCA, NET Act, and the soon to be passed Induce Act for further examples of what they will do to protect their cow.
