You'd like the world to use MS's sender ID without patent protection? And invite another issue like Eolas?

The W3C has no problem with patents and copyright in standards provided they are licenced on (preferably) GPL-like terms, or at worst RAND. Patenting anything is expensive, particularly as this will require a world wide patent (say $500,000) and it protects it to a large extent from future patent claims.

I'd wait and see what eventuates. If there are too many gotchas, it won't be adopted by the big guys and that will be the end of that.
