Yes, sort of
It can be spoofed along with forging headers. This is something that has been discussed for the past decade. Basically, what needs to happen is that an email from john@doe.com should resolve to an ip address belonging to doe.com. If it doesn't, the email is a forgery and should be discarded. There are a few gotchas to this. For instance, I can download my home email at work, but if I can't send through my home ISP. They tell me to use my local email server. So a check on the IP address would show a false.
