Just what I was thinking. Besides giving a little more info on what their definition of "infected" means, I really like to know what practical steps can be taken to safeguard a personal or small business web site - or at least how a web site admin can quickly detect a so called infection.

In early April I got an urgent email from "The IRS" with a link to an official looking web page asking for all kinds of info (as if the IRS needs me to tell them my Soc Sec Number!)

So I tracked the URL on WhoIs and called the guy who owns the domain. He didn't know about his site being hacked until he started getting calls from all over the country - mine was the 6th call. And once he knew he fixed it pronto - I checked while I was talking to him and the "Official IRS" page was already gone.
